At Drupa 2000, the Gerber Profile was introduced to the international market—a versatile, multi-functional machine capable of producing cutting dies, stripping and blanking dies, and milling phenolic counters (Pertinax counters). Around the same time, universal milling machines from brands like Wissner, Kimla, Datron, and Cosign entered the market with great success. These machines were highly regarded for their precision and retained strong resale value due to their adaptability across various industries.

Today, more than 20 brands of milling machines are represented in the market, including Chinese manufacturers such as Dyhua and Wo Hing. For engraving brass and aluminum (in small formats up to 500 x 500 mm), Datron and Wo Hing stand out as well-established specialists in the die-making sector.

Although the first Steel Counter Plate (SCP) was milled by SMR in Switzerland in 1988, it took nearly 20 years for the market to fully recognize the significance of this creasing technology. Gradually, die-makers—and a handful of die-cutters—began adopting and producing this solution, which has since become the standard for high-quality folding boxes. We estimate that over 300 professional machines for producing SCPs are installed worldwide today, while more than 1,000 are in use for milling Pertinax and crafting stripping tools from plywood.
